BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO SUCCESSFUL TURKEY HUNTING

Most men are interested in turkey hunting. However, many of them do not have proper and enough information on hunting such animals. This article will talk about the dos and don'ts of hunting turkeys. To begin with, it is good to note that turkey loves to keep itself away from the sun. Therefore, it is best for beginners to look for turkeys in places like hilly terrain, rocks, stones and other land formation that filters the rays of the sun.

One important tip on turkey hunting is to gather enough supplies. First thing to consider is your choice of weapon as a hunter. Also, though firearms are generally allowed to be used in turkey hunting, there are some states that don't allow such way of hunting these animals.

On the other hand, it is important for a hunter to get into camouflage because turkeys have fairly clear vision. Therefore, anything that is caught by their eyes will make them fuss and fly. Next to loading up gears is learning some useful turkey hunting techniques.


One noted good technique in hunting turkeys is known as stalking. It involves covering behind the bushes, following the turkey smoothly and slowly. As a hunter, you need to make sure that as soon as the turkey draws nearer to you, give your best shot and be as quiet as possible as any noise will decrease your chance of snaring the bird.

However, contrary to the statement above, there is also another way of hunting turkeys and the technique is called turkey calling. It is done by imitating the original and natural sounds that turkeys produce. This way, the hunter can lure male turkeys to go to his direction. Hence, calling technique is the total opposite of stalking technique but both are very effective methods in turkey hunting.

With calling method, the hunter needs to use some woods to produce sounds through friction. The sounds that are produced by using woods are called push button call, box call and pot call. A different way to execute calling method is by the use of the mouth. There are three type of calling method and these are wing bone, diaphragm call and box call.
