What Is An Adaptogen?

An adaptogen is a plant or mushroom extract that assists the body and mind to manage stress, anxiety, fatigue and assist in overall wellbeing.

There are three qualities that plants must have to be an adaptogen:

  • Non-toxic when taken in normal doses.
  • Helps your body cope with stress.
  • Allows your body to return to balance (homeostasis).
It must be said that adaptogens are really just a temporary solution, a bandage, if you will, but aren’t the solution to conditions of long-term stress.

As you can understand the purpose of an adaptogen is to assist your body in doing what it should normally be doing naturally. Generally, this is accomplished by assisting the body by increasing or decreasing natural chemical reactions in the body.
