Many people today wonder if they should take vitamin supplements. There are valid reasons to do so.

The list of reasons is a long one and can vary from person to person, but the main point is that many people in today's society tend to NOT eat a balanced diet...one which could provide the wide range of vitamins, minerals, and other substances, such as phytonutrients, needed for good health. Let's face it, a Danish and a cup of coffee may supply a little energy for a while....at least until the sugar wears off, but has little in the way of nutrients to recommend it.

Of all its important functions, one of the most important benefits of vitamin k is that it, like Vitamin D helps the body use calcium effectively. It also seems to have preventive and treatment benefits relative to cancer, and many human trials have shown that vitamin K may actually have anticancer effects.

Vitamin K also apparently helps prevent hardening of the arteries. This is valuable in preventing heart disease and heart failure.

Vitamin K is a member of the fat soluble vitamins. Many people have never even heard of it. It actually has three different forms: phytomenadione (Vitamin K1), menaquinane (Vitamin K2), and menadione (Vitamin K3). These three similar, yet very different compounds are commonly referred to as a group as quinines. Vitamin K, like Vitamin D, is another of the vitamins that the body is normally able to produce own its own. It does so by making use of bacteria which are naturally found in the large intestines of healthy individuals. It can also be obtained from natural sources and by means of a Vitamin K supplement.
