We all want to be healthy, but some of us smoke...and, although we have tried many, many times to quit smoking, it just hasn't happened yet.
How to Stay Healthy If You Can't Quit Smoking

First of all, if there is any way that you CAN quit smoking, do so.
However, I DO know how tough it is because I quit smoking so many times that I eventually lost count.
I once quit for seven years...and started back. This time, it's been 27 years.
I can't say that it gets easier, but you are more likely to make it if you don't give up. Believe me, it's worth it.
But, even if you cannot quit smoking there are things you can do in order to remain healthy, help prevent the diseases associated with smoking, and live a long, healthy, productive life.
You will be happy to know that you will not have to do anything special, at least no more special than anyone else.
First of all, get regular, moderate exercise.
While I normally recommend BOTH strength training AND cardio, I would advise the smoker to concentrate on the cardio. Long walks, swimming, running, that sort of thing. You want to keep your lungs, in fact the entire cardiopulmonary system, in as good a condition as possible. That's the major place the smoking will initially hurt you.
If it's any consolation, by the way, many people report finding it easier to quit smoking when they do cardiovascular exercise regularly.
You should also be happy to know that smokers are less likely to have a weight problem, or have less of one, than non-smokers, so I guess that's a good thing as keeping your weight under control is essential to good health whether you are a smoker or not.
Again, whether you are a smoker or not, you should make sure that you get the proper nutrition.
This is where some smokers have a bit of a problem as smoking tends to curb your appetite.
If you cannot eat healthy meals, at least take a daily multivitamin, as smoking also interferes with the absorption of certain nutrients from the foods you DO eat.
Stay active and engaged. Being socially connected goes a long way...in health and in years. The person who has connections and is having fun with life is less likely to become ill and succumb to the detrimental effects of ANY health risk.
Along this same line, in addition to getting good quality rest, try to relax, as stress is one of the major risk factors for almost every major, and minor, illness. The mind-body connection is strong, and stress can prodigious effects on physical health.
You are fortunate to be living at this time, as there has been a great invention...the electronic cigarette.
Electronic cigarettes, or e cigs, allow you to enjoy the pleasurable effects of nicotine without the over 4,000 dangerous chemicals contained in the smoke of traditional tobacco cigarettes.
If you simply cannot quit smoking. If you have to have the nicotine, try an electronic cigarette. That alone will help you stay healthy and live longer.
